Question: My 5 and 1/2 year old son is having occasional rise in temperature and when he reaches 101 he sweats out and return normal.
The case history is on Mar 1st he had throat infection and it got over with goggling and some home medications.
He had typhoid vaccination on 21rd Mar and after a week, he got a heavy fever seems to be viral(as his father got one and he got it the next day his father got normal) for a day and it again settles down in 3 days with a swell in lymph node behind the ear and his pediatrician told there is chest phlegm. She adviced for amoxylin(clamp kid) for 7 days. He was active and eating well even during all fevers. Again there was a rise in temperature on Apr 4th evening. The temperature was within 100.F the next day. The doctor asked to extend clamp kid for another 3 days. He is having cough - not so bad.. but white phlegm was coming. But when he exposed to chill air(AC) his head is warm and temperature is rising. As I said he sweats out without any medicine. Even applying eucalyptus or camphor oil is reducing the temperature. His testicles are still shrunken which he used to have during fever. He has this during last year also(MARCH). We are in Chennai, India. Since he has the same pattern last year also.. will it leads to asthma?
Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be asthma

Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms
Its less likely to be asthma. Respiratory infections usually have seasonal variation and are quite common when the weather is hot and humid. Asthma could also present as cough. But the cough of asthma is persistent and is usually explosive. As you mentioned cough is not so severe , making the possibility of asthma less likely. Also Asthma is not likely to be associated with fever, presence of fever usually denotes infection.
I would suggest you the following which will definitely help
1. Steam inhalation: 15 - 20 minutes each session using electronic steamer will be very helpful
2. Warm saline gargling: to a glass of lukewarm water add 2 spoons of common table salt. Make him gargle thrice a day
3. Decoction: To a cup of milk+ 20 Tulsi leaves+ 1 spoon turmeric+ 2 gm frsh inger+ 4 black pepper+ 2 spoon sugar. Bring it to boil , filter it and feed him hot thrice. it will relieve throat congestion.

5. Tulsi and turmeric milk: it will also boost the immunity.
6. One serving of citrus fruit everyday also boost immunity
7. Plenty of oral fluids: You can follow Rule of 1. 1 glass of after 1 hour before and 1 glass of water 1 hour after food. It will ensure adequate intake of water and will also not affect nutrition when water is taking along with food.
