Suggest Treatment Plan For Colon Cancer And Jaundice
Question: hi doctor. need your honest opinion. my uncle who is 77 years old has been battling colon ca as primary cancer then metastasized to liver for the past 3 years. his colon tumors were removed already and he has been undergoing more or less 6 chemo cycles (around 20++ sessions in all). lately he was hospitalized due to jaundice and symptoms that include slight disorientation and weird behavior. doctors said toxins have to be removed from his system by inducing bowel movement with the help of lactulose. at least 3x bowel movement is required. he is also being given aminoleban thru IV. do you think the end is near given his present condition wherein tumors are still present no improvement even with chemo and there might ne new ones too.
Brief Answer:
3 to 6 months
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Your uncle is suffering from stage 4 colon cancer.
Since he had jaundice and having slight disorientation aim of treatment now should only consist of basic supportive care.
The end is near and since there is no improvement even with chemotherapy the average survival time is from 3 to 6 months.
Since the disease has now spread to liver i will advise to continue aminoleban. It will help in improvement of his nutritional state.
To induce bowel movement i would advise syrup Lactulose 30 ml twice daily.
