Question: Hello doctor, I have today done certain blood tests and the reports are as below,
Blood urea 17.8mg/dl
Serum creatinine 0.6 mg/dl
SGPT/ALT 73 U/L
Alkaline phosphate 103 IU/L
Wanted to understand from you if these reports are normal, as per lab range my SGPT/ALT is high . Would also like to tell you that i am regularly taking cholestrol lowering drugs, hypothroid medicine in the morning and a medicine for high blood pressure . I also have an acute low back stiffness problem for which i am also taking NSAID medicines.
Please analyse the problem in totality and advise..Does my liver also have a problem, do i need to take any medicines/precautions.

Thanks,
XXXX

Dear Sir,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that your LFT are slightly in higher range There can be many reasons so it will be difficult to predict one .

First if you take alcohol then you will need to reduce it . Secondly if you are obese sometimes then also these functions can be slightly deranged . NSAIDS should be taken on requirement basis only. I will ask you to repeat the LFT after 2 weeks and get a USG Abdomen done to see if there is any other pathology .

Take care.

Thanks doctor for the response but i would like to know that does SGPT also increase due to taking cholestrol lowering drugs...i have been taking them for almost 2 years non stop. Also can you prescribe a medicine which can help bring my SGPT levels to normal.

Dear Sir,

Yes the cholesterol lowering drugs can also lead to this . Any drug can affect the liver function so cant be said as to what exactly is leading to this .At this levels any drug is not required to lower the levels . You should wait and watch plus get a USG abdomen done .
