Brief Answer:
One time high value , no need to worry.

HI

Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic.

Creatine Kinase gets elevated if there is any injury to muscle. Injury can be in the form of trauma , Infection or Inflammation.

A one time elevation in creatine kinase doesn't indicate any serious condition but if it is increasing then it should be taken seriously .

I need to know what exactly you are having and why you were tested for creatine kinase.

Kindly revert back with details asked.

Regards.

I am a triple bypass patient with the surgery done in mid-2008. The elevated CK score has occured only twice, consecutively in XXXXXXX 25 2014 (value 425) and now XXXXXXX 22 2015 (value 864) against the desired range 30-350 which was never exceeded in previous blood tests.

Also both MCV and MCH registered Low, respectively 72.8 and 23.8 in 2014 and 73.5 and 24.2 in 2015 which may be attributed to hereditary cause...Is this correct and how important is this?

Sodium is slightly low (132) but this is temporary.

Many thanks, Doc, for your advice.

Brief Answer:
You need to get Fractionation test of CK.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

A bypass in 2008 should not increase your CK in 2015. So there is something else that is causing you this problem.

I advise you to get one more test called Fractionation of CK, it means there are different types of CK, like CK-MM, CK-MB, CK-BB. I need to know which CK has elevated in your case.

The cause for your low MCV and MCH could be either due Iron deficiency or problems in Hemoglobin synthesis like Thalessemia. For this I advise you to get Iron Profile test and Hemoglobin electrophoresis. But no need to worry about low MCV / MCH.

For your elevated CK you may also require an additional test called Muscle Biopsy, but whether it should be done or not I will tell you after I see your CK fractionation test report.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask.

Regards.
