A combination of basic protection from cold and medicines
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in Healthcaremagic.com.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.
I understand your concern.
You have given a very short history. So it is difficult to understand your problem completely.
However, I will give you some very basic yet practical remedies for common cold.
The most common symptoms people suffer from in common cold are running nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, associated fever, cough and sore throat if any.
First of all, some basic protection from further exposure to cold is important.
Stay warm, eat hot drinks in regular intervals and avoid exposure to cold environment outside as far as possible.
Now, treating your symptoms are important.
Eating lots of fluid orally will save you from dehydration.
Running nose and sneezing might be taken care of by anti-histamines like fexofenadine or levocetrizine.
For nasal congestion, xylometazoline drops or sprays are very effective. Simple saline drops might help you as well.
For cough and fever, paracetamol tablets and over the counter cough syrups will serve you well.
If there is associated throat pain or swelling or difficulty in swallowing, antibiotics like azithromycin or coamoxyclav should be started; alongwith, warm saline gargling and steam inhalation helps a lot.
So it is a combination of medical and home remedies which will help you get rid of cold.
Hope I have answered your question.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.
