Question: I had a miscarriage yesterday and I am heartbroke. It took 5 years to conceive. I was 7.5 weeks pregnant but the baby died at 6 weeks. I am 41 and want to try again when I am emotionally ready. Will it take as long to conceive next time and will a miscarriage happen again. Please help me I am devastated and still in a lot of pain. I have miscarried naturally as this is the route I wanted to take. I have a further scan in 3 weeks to make sure everything is clear. Can I have a healthy pregnancy please?

IN my pregnancy I did have a gestation sac, yolk and embryo seen but never a heartbeat. What type if miscarriage is this called please?

Brief Answer:
Hi, it is known as a missed miscarriage.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to healthcaremagic.
I am extremely sorry for your loss. I can understand what you are going through now. But you have to be strong and find the cause of this. Basically, you had a missed miscarriage. The most common reason for this is a chromosomal abnormality. But, you can confirm this by sending the products of conception for karyotyping, which has not been done in your case.
I think your age can be a major factor in this. As the age increases, the quality of eggs deteriorate and this can lead to several genetic defects in the fetus. Other thing can be from your husband's side. If his sperms are not of normal morphology, it can also lead to defects in fetus.
Other things which lead to miscarriages are a thyroid disorder, a high blood sugar level or may be some chromosomal defect in the wife or husband. So, you can do a thyroid profile, sugar levels and a karyotyping for yourself and your husband.
Now regarding the next pregnancy, I think you can start trying after 2 to 3 months. You can track your ovulation by repeated ultrasound and can be in contact with your husband every 2 to 3 days after your periods stop. It will increase chances of your pregnancy. It can't be predicted when you will get pregnant again.
But , in my opinion, chances of miscarriages are higher due to your age factor. Generally we recommend IVF with ICSI in patients with a higher age with a peri implantation genetic diagnosis of the embryos. But if you want to try naturally, you can do that keeping in mind the high risk of miscarriages. Hope I have answered your question. If you have any other query, I will be happy to help.
Regards
