Question: I've been on Diane for years and have PCOS, I once tried XXXXXXX and I was able to lose weight but my skin broke out. This was three years ago. I'm back on Diane but having difficulty losing weight again. Doctor won't give me Metformin because I'm not trying to get pregnant. Do o gave any options?

Brief Answer:
Metformin should be added, plus diet and exercise.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
PCOS is a condition of hormonal imbalance, and unexplained weight loss is associated with it.
Metformin will help with the weight loss, and you can definitely take it, even if you are not planning to get pregnant.
Metformin is often given to young women with weight gain, please discuss this with your Gynecologist.
ANd you need to follow a dedicated fitness regime with a personal trainer preferably and a diet chart prepared by a Nutritionist.
Those two approaches - sensible diet tailored to your body type, and exercise - are the only two means by which you can hope to lose weight.
What is your height and weight ?
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.

Sorry forgot to mention that i am actually quite healthy, not overweight, but i do weights at least 4 times a week and follow a macro based diet to achieve body goals. Except, i am at 22% body fat, which is high for the amount of work i do and my diet. My trainer and nutritionist are aware of my PCOS diagnosis and seem surprised about this fat percentage too. They believe that it is because my body is so estrogen dominant right now due to the Diane. When i had a brief switch to XXXXXXX i was able to lose weight but as i said my skin didnt respond well. When im on no medication, my weight creeps up and i have all other kinds of PCOS symptoms. Im starting to worry about hair loss on my head and increased facial hair. But as i said my doc doesnt see Metformin as a solution because im not trying to get pregnant.

Brief Answer:
You can try metformin.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
Metformin is not at all just limited to women who are trying to get pregnant.
It is indicated for metabolic control of PCOS.
I can understand that you are breaking out with XXXXXXX so you cannot continue that.
As such, you have an ideal body weight and are quite fit and active, so do not read much into numbers and percentages of body fat.
Your being fit is what is important.
Please try and discuss metformin with your doctor, it will help the hair loss , hirsutism.
