Suggest Ways To Manage The Vomiting And Diarrhea After Taking Metformin

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: I'm a type 2 diabetic, I was given bydureon which was taken last Thursday, and metformin TR 500 mg with dinner. I have had allergic reactions to Metformin in the past which caused vomiting and diaherrea. After taking 500 mg of Metformin on Thursday evening I had diaherrea all the next day. I took a second dose on Friday evening. Since Saturday I have been vomiting and diahrerra all day and night. I'm sure the metformin is out of my system now, so it must be the bydreon causing the symptoms I have described. If I take one bit of food, I start to vomit. I need to know what to do now, I have had no food since Friday.

Brief Answer:
Vomiting and diarrhea are side effects bydureon

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear
good day
I can understand your concern in my opinion the medication you are taking are metformin and long acting exinatide this is also called as bydureon
the main action of drug bydureon is to increase a hormone called incretin in your blood
this hormone incretin will not allow food to go down into the intestine quickly so the food will stay in stomach for long time and giving a feel of nausea for patients

similar symptoms can be seen with metformin but when compare with bydureon it will be very mild.

so in this kind of conditions usually I will ask my patients to reduce the dose of bydureon to lowest possible dose and prescribe some medication to reduce gastritis kindly meet your doc and discuss the condition .
hope this satisfies your query

The byduron last for 7 days, and I started it on Thursday. I cannot reduce it yet, as I still have this dose of 7 days in me right now. I don't just have nausea, I'm throwing up the minute I eat any food. I throw up what I had 2 hours ago. So, for you to stay the food stays in the stomach longer, I now see that. Is there anything I can take to stop throwing up? I will be contacting my doctor first thing in the morning, but not being able to eat is awful. I have not had solid food/ or any food since Friday.
