Suggest Ways To Manage Weakness And Muscle Pain While Weaning Off Prednisone

Question: I was on prednisone for about 8 weeks while receiving Chemo for prostate cancer. On Sep 8 i began my withdrawal from prednisone reducing my 10mg per day to alternate 10 mg daily and 5 mg daily for week one.
I had no problem until Sep 13 when I experienced tiredness and slight disorientation . Yesterday however, there was drastic change. Extreme weakness, pain in muscles, difficulty moving about, impossibility standing up from a chair,no energy, lying in bed napping was only relief. Today I was scheduled to move to week two of 5 mg per day. Am I correct in diagnosing this condition as withdrawal symptoms ?
Should I stay on week one withdrawal plan or move to week two? Or what other suggestion sod you have?
I am 86 years old with prostate cancer metasticised throughout mid and upper body.
Today I feel much better than yesterday, mobility much easier, less muscle stiffness and freezing up.

Brief Answer:
yes I think you should persist on the current dose for some more time
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
These symptoms could well be due to adrenal suppression from long term prednisolone. This should gradually improve as it already has in you. Since the dose of prednisolone is quite low for prostate cancer, serious problems should not occur.
But keeping in mind these problems, maybe you should continue with 10 mg alternate with 5 mg daily for some more time (5-7 days) and then shift to 5 mg daily if everything is fine.
Hope this helps.
