Question: Hi.. my 10 months daughter fell backwards while trying to stand up from ground and her height is less than 2 feet. Im not sure if her bum landed first or her head. She cried for 2 minutes and after that back to her self playing.. this happened at yesterday night 10.30.. till now no vomiting.. she didnt go unconcious after fall.. im worried about a possible brain injury.. if there is a slow brain bleed wen ll the symptoms show up.. how long should i monitor for change in behaviour.. it is already more than 15 hrs n no symptoms..Sorry she is 11.5 months old..There is no swelling, redness of bump on the back of head.. eating and playing normal.. she didnt lose any recently avqyured skils like clapping or waving hands..If there is a slow brain bleed how long will it take for her to show visible symptoms.. i dont wanna take a ct scan n expose her to unnecessay radiation..

Brief Answer:
Watch for 24 hours, no need to worry much

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
I won't get overly worried as the baby does not has any danger signs.
The late presentation can occur in extradural hematoma or subacute subdural hematoma.
But in this age these lesions are uncommon because of soft skull and uncooked suture.
Still I suggest you to observe for 24 hours for any abnormal symptoms which you have mentioned.

Wishing for your child's good health.
Regards

Brief Answer:
It's highly unlikely for this age

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Its highly unlikely for this age to present after 24 hours of life if the baby is asymptomatic otherwise.
For this reason the observation period recommended for this age is 24 hours.
Considering the radiation injury of the CT scan it can not be done in all infants of head injury, to find any internal injury.
So again I would suggest you to observe for 24 hours and not to worry much if baby is asymptomatic.
You may consult your pediatrician to get an advise for CT scan if you are very much worried to ease your anxiety.

Regards
