Suggest Ways To Rule Out Tendonitis

Question: My Mom is 90 years old and she has just moved into our 2 storey home as my sister passed away on March 8th. She has lived with my sister for years in a bungalow. I had a doctor come to the house yesterday and she said that it was definitely not a bloodclot. She was given a pain killer Ketorolac (which is sold in Canada) but so far it's not helping her. It's not helping at all. She is still in pain. She has no heart problems or pain in the chest. I wondered if it could be tendonitis from going up and down the steps. (the problem is in the shin area down to her ankle.Just one more thing....it is most painful in the calf area.

Brief Answer:
Dopplers ultrasound should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Generally it is impossible for a doctor to rule out veins thrombosis without an ultrasound. So telling you that this is not a blood clot is just a lie.
She may have two things which should be ruled out at first:
1. Chronic arteries narrowing and obstruction (atherosclerosis). If so, her leg should be colder than the other one. The pulse should be absent on the painful leg. The pain greatly increases while walking so she should stop and wait.
2. Deep veins thrombosis. There might no symptoms at all. The pain does not go away while resting. The leg is not cold, rather warm. Can be swollen.

Tendonitis does not seem to be the case.

In case of arteries issues and veins issues, Doppler ultrasound should be done.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
