Question: Hello, I had gall bladder surgery on XXXXXXX 1, 2016 and now I have a growth to the left of my belly button. It seems to be getting larger and most of the time it is soft and moveable. It doesn't cause any pain, but it has increased my waist measurements. I wondred if it is a hernia and if I should get it removed, even if it might be a lipoma. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

It sounds like you might have an umbilical hernia. This is a very common type of hernia which can sometimes cause mild abdominal discomfort. A minor surgery can be done to correct the actual hernia.

However, a definitive physical examination is needed in order to diagnose a hernia. a lipoma is another possibility but again this would have to be determined via direct exam.

this is not an urgent problem but I would advise that you contact your primary care physician for a consultation and examination. Your doctor can review the options regarding management and possibly consider referring you to a general surgeon if needed.

Thank you again for sending your question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
