Prophylactic Management
Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back and since disease/ symptoms are in initial stage thus one can incorporate following guidelines:
1. Since passage of air is narrower in men than women thus are more likely to snore.
2. Since blockage ( structural defect) is not there thus blocked airways can be excluded.
3. Modifiable Factors:
i. Reduce weight which reduce the fatty tissue in the back of the throat.
ii. Avoid smoking/alcohol which relaxes the muscles.
iii. Avoid sleeping flat on your back, instead prefer sideways.
iv. Avoid high fat/soy milk products which helps in mucus formation.
v. Avoid heavy meals before going to bed, meals should be light, digestible and to be taken 2-3 hours before retiring to bed.
PS. have 3-4 small meals instead of one large single meal.
vi. Elevate your head by 4 inches at night.
vii. If dryness is an issue make sure to humidify your room to ensure proper moisture.
viii. Regular mouth wash after dinner helps free the obstructed airway.
ix. Nasya karma (errhine therapy) and jal neti are effective methods to prevent nasal congestion and clear upper respiratory tract
x. If inspite of conservative line of management problem still remains, one must seek further medical advice regarding options for snoring since choice of treatment then needs to be addressed i.e. Drug Therapy or Surgical Intervention is required.
