Suggest Ways To Wean Off Fentanyl And Oxycodone

Question: have been on opid 6 years fentanyl 100 mg oxycodone 30mg every 4 3 h r as needed for .....3 years what is the best way for me to come off this my pain is 8 my metal is not good .

You have been taking large amounts of opiate pain medication for I assume from pain problems. You are now wanting to wean off your medications. Your high doses will require gradual weaning and supervision. This is not something I would recommend doing over the internet. I recommend that you see a specialist in addiction medicine. You will start by reducing the fentanyl doses and then the oxycodone. A weaning schedule will be developed that will allow for the least amount of withdrawal symptoms.

We may not be talking about the same thing. Let me try again. My current pain doctor is weaning me off of opiates and fentanyl, but she is doing so very aggressively, cutting the dosage by over 50% in the first 4 weeks. I am starting to experience severe withdrawal effects.

The MD that did this reduction protocol has only been a licensed physician since XXXXXXX of this year. Now she won't give me an RX for pain medications period. She now wants to give me shots, but my spine specialist says he would not recommend that and the shots would do no good. I'm trying to get a third opinion from a new spine doctor. But in the meantime I'm suffering horribly from withdrawals and pain.

I would like to find a new pain doctor in the XXXXXXX area who could perhaps wean me off of the opiates and fentanyl at a slower rate. I have been on opiates since 2009, but over time they stopped being effective.

I am sorry I misunderstood your question. You are looking for a chronic pain specialist that will help you with pain and help the weaning process. I do not know of any specialists in your area. Your best approach is to search the internet. My base is from XXXXXXX state so I do not know of any physicians in your area.

I understand your reluctance to continue with your current doctor due to her non empathetic approach to your health. I agree with you in finding another and more empathetic provider to help you wean from opiates
