Suggest Ways To Wean Off Gutka?
Yes medicines are there
Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us.
Apart from nicotine patches and gums(which is just replacement therapy) there are medicines which can help to quit gutka.
Bopropion is the choice of medicine. Specifically SR (bupron SR) preparation is used in tobacco deaddiction. It acts via norepinephrine and doapmine pathway and reduce craving of gutka. Along with bupropion, propranolol and low dose benzodiazepine (like lorazepam, clonazepam or etizolam) are used to reduce and stop withdrawal features.
Dose and duration of treatment depend on duration, quantity, frequency and type of tobacco use.
The best doctor to consult for the same is psychiatrist as by degree he/she is a deaddiction specialist also.
Hope i have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
Would be grateful to you throughout my life. Also specify how long this medicine needs to be taken.
Many Thanks
Best Regards, XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for follow up.
I appreciate your decision to quit gutka. It is really a very good decision for your life as well as for your family.
I already mentioned that dose and duration of treatment depend on duration, quantity, frequency and type of tobacco use.Different persons have different severity of withdrawal features. Someone can leave gutka with strong motivation without any medicine while someone needs medicines for one year to prevent relapse. According to criteria if you keep away from substance for 1 year then you are completely deaddictied.
I request and encourage you to visit a psychiatrist to start the treatment.I am sorry that I can not help with online prescription as it is not valid.
Good luck and take care.
Normaolly what mg and and how many times its asked to be taken.
Will surely visit a doctor but am just checking with you not as a prescription but form an idea.
Would be grateful if you can answer my question.
Kind Regards, XXXXXXX
Treatment should be like as mentioned below
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr. XXXXXXX
Thanks for information.
If I were your treating doctor I would like to start with Bupron Sr 150 mg two times a day with proranolol SR 40 in morning and benzodiazepine according to your withdrawal symptoms.
Gradually propranolol and benzo can be decreased and stopped in few weeks and bupropion should be continued for at least 6 months. Bupropion can be reduced and stopped gradually.
Other mutivitamins and symptomatic treatment can be given for short duration according to need.
All the best. Wish you gutka free life ahead.
