Brief Answer:
SLOWLY TAPER OFF TRAMADOL

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com.

Tramadol is an opioid and when you taken it for a prolonged time, you develop dependence to it. Even if the dose is low, still the dependence develops and so when you suddenly stop taking it, your body can show withdrawal symptoms. I have seen such cases also, however the symptoms were mild like nausea, vomiting, insomnia and depression etc. But there are worse symptoms like chills and rigor, convulsions etc. Though their occurrence is rare but possible.

So I would suggest you to slowly taper off the dosage if you want to discontinue it. Take 1tab in the morning and half tab in the evening for 1week, then half tab two times daily for another week, then omit your nightly dose next week and then discontinue it in the following week. This should avoid withdrawal symptoms. Please do this after consulting your doctor.

However, for chronic pain, you might need some analgesics. Try paracetamol, its safer and has no withdrawal symptoms.

Hope I have answered your question.
