Question: I have a habbit of taking cough syrup such as corex and rexcof . Before that I was taking spasmo proxvon capsules from atleast 4 - 5 years , but from last 4 months I never take that . instead I started drinking cough syrup . now I want to quit that also . If I don't take it I am yawning again and again every 3-4 minutes . If not taken for almost 2 days Ifaces problem of loose motion .

Spasmo proxyvon(propoxyphane), corex and rexcof (both contains codein) all are opioid substance. In XXXXXXX they come under narcotic drug act.

Person becomes dependent on it when he/she takes it more frequently. So when he is not able to get any opioid substance, he faces withdrawal symptoms like diarrhea, yawning, fever, body ache, watery eyes etc.

Same thing has happened in your case.

For treatment of this addiction/habit sublingual (below tongue) burenorphine(only available with deaddiction center/psychiatrist) is used with other medicines like diclo/brufen,clonidine,benzodiazepines for short period.
Most of the cases treated with indoor admission for initial 2-3 days.

It is diffract to quit this 4-5 years long habit without help of doctor in your case and without any supportive medicines.
