Tested For Bilirubin, Serum, Sgpt And Shot Level. Are These In Normal Range?
What does this mean. Sgpt and shot are normal.
Thank you for the query.
Bilirubin is a metabolite of hemoglobin and when the red blood cell dies, the parts of it can be metabolized. When the erythrocyte dies, the red pigment is released to the blood (hemoglobin) and is "digested" by immune system cells (macrophages) to indirect bilirubin. Such bilirubin can not be excreated with urine or stool so it needs to be conjugated with special protein. This conjugation process takes place in the liver cells and such conjugated bilirubin is called direct bilirubin.
In case of jaundice (total bilirubin elevation above the norm) we are able to tell either the problem is in the liver, bile ducts or in the blood hemolysis for example. This is what this two types of bilirubin are used for.
Your liver tests are fine as there is no jaundice. Your bilirubins are in referal ranges so there is nothing to worry about.
"Diazo" or "Calculated" means the lab method.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
