Toddler Has Bronchiolitis And Not Drinking Milk. Any Advice?
Question: My 4 months baby boy is not drinking milk, changed several formulas, 1 month back attacked with Bronchiolytis from then his intake went very low. Sucking fingers but pushing off nipple(bottle). Please advice
Hi XXXXXXX,
First I would like to ask you whether your baby is on breast milk before or now at all.If not why?
Bronchiolitis is a viral infection and hence does not respond to antibiotics. The cough takes a long time to subside.During this time the intake will be definitely affected.
The baby will improve. Do not worry.
What you can do is start feeding with the bottle and then complete with cup and spoon! You can do this till the baby starts feeding again. You can also try some fresh orange juice, cerelac rice with milk, along with milk to change the taste and see.
Give some mutivitaminedrops with Bcomplex.
All the best
God bless

Appreciate your prompt response Dr. Uma, Thank you very much.
Due to lack of mother milk the baby is bottle feeded from birth, started with lactogen but because of constipation changed to Nan and everything was fine apart from the stool color which changed to dark XXXXXXX (blackish), now we are using lactogen but the color is same. After bronchiolytis he dint take Nan so Dr suggested to try Enfamil, but of no use. Currently we are feeding with lactogen and just started solid food (Nestum-rice, tried cerelac wheat but he dint take).
Initial 2 to 3 days he took Nestum but after that he is interested in that as well.
If we change to something new he will take for couple of days and then starts the problem.
Can we give 3 times solid food (Nestum, if he is ready to have it)?
Can we add honey or sugar in milk? as he took milk when added with honey but i read on internet that honey should be avoided till 1 year, so dint encourage it.
Can we give glucose powder?
Can we feed Biscuits like Parle-g or Horlicks with milk?
Can you suggest any multivitamin with Bcomplex - drops name?
His appetite has gone very low from 1 week, I am really worried. please advice. Thank you.

Hi again,
Thanks for writing back.
1-Do not keep changing milk-- all are same! Only names are different!
2 You can give nestum 3 times no problem.
3 Try not to add honey or sugar to milk- already it has the required sugar in it !
4 No glucose powder please---- it can cause loose stools!
5 Rice cereal is better than wheat cereal up to 1 year..
6 Biscuits are ok
7 You can give A-z drops o.6 ml once a day.
8 Finally be patient, check serial weight every month and if increasing that is it!!!
Babies are little adults and have their likes and dislikes!!!!!
Good luck
