Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
Insomnia refers to taking more than 30 mins to fall asleep, waking up more than 3 times a night or staying asleep for less than 6 hours as in your case.
It can occur on its own or be associated with other medical conditions.
IN general , the guidelines require that the following evaluations be completed in a person such as yourself with a history of sleeping less than 4 hours : (1)your doctor would complete an assessment called the epworth sleepiness scale
(2) a 2 week diary to look at your sleep pattern
(3)checking for any diseases or conditions that may be affecting your sleep
(4)look at your sleep habits or
sleep hygiene as it is also called.
(5) look for any medications (over the counter or prescribed) that you may be taking that would be affecting your sleep
Medication can be given to help you sleep but this is usually not given to take for a long period of time.
Some of the medications that are used are
lunesta,
ambien,sonata
In addition to medication, it is recommended that the following are used: (1) education about sleep hygiene
(2)relaxation therapy- this involves learning about muscle relaxation or breathing techniques
(3)stimulus control therapy- this means (a) going to bed only when sleepy
(b) using the bed only for sleep or sexual activity - no eating , reading or watching tv
(c)no daytime napping
(d)if not able to sleep after 15 to 20 minutes , getting out of bed and doing something relaxing until sleepy
(e)have a standard wake up time, do not spend more time than necessary in bed
These methods may help you to sleep for longer periods. If they are difficult to do on your own then you may want to consult a sleep specialist for assistance.
In terms of the excess salivation, this occurs as a result of reflux, side effect of medications, liver disease, ulcers in the mouth or mouth infections.
Even if there is no history of other reflux symptoms (burning in the chest, acid taste in the mouth, feeling food stuck in the chest or feeling food come back up), the use of reflux medications might help with this excess saliva.
This includes medications such as
prevacid,
nexium,
prilosec.
Burning eyes can be due to dry eyes, allergies of the eye, infection, exposure to irritants in the environment, side effect of medications. To determine the exact cause you would need to be assessed by your doctor.
