Question: i was taking losartan for high blood pressure and today was changed to Benazepril XXXXXXX Are they simular and what side effects?

Brief Answer: hi and welcome to hcm Detailed Answer: Thanks for the query. No,these 2 are not the same. Losartan is ar blocker and Benazepril is ace inibitor. It means that there is difference in mechanism of working and type of receptors. But effect on bp is similar and efficiency depends from man to man so it usual that different bp drugs are tried until adequate bp is achieved. Benazepril has more side effect comparing to losartan but these are rare and usually this is just gastrointestinal discomfort,nausea ,loss of apetite, dry cough, and other gastrointestinal symptoms. Very rarely we see some more serious side effects. most people dont experience any side effect and it can be taken for long term. It is just important that it will lead to good bp regulation.
