What Are The Benefits And Drawbacks Of Tubal Ligation?

MALE METHOD IS BETTER AND LESS COMPLICATED.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:
1) Tubal ligation or tubectomy is a PERMANENT method of sterilization in which a WOMAN'S fallopian tubes are clamped and blocked or ligated.
Vasectomy is a PERMANENT surgical procedure for MALE sterilization, in which vasa deferentia are severed and then tied to prevent sperm from entering into the ejaculation.
2) Post-operative complications in tubal ligation (abdominal surgery) are slightly higher than vasectomy. Some evidence shows post-tubal sterilization syndrome (abnormal bleeding and pain, changes in sexual behavior and emotional health, increased premenstrual distress) above 30 years of age.
In vasectomy, short-term possible complications may include infection, bruising, pain and bleeding into the scrotum (hematoma). Though it can be minimized by covering them with gauze or small adhesive bandages.
TIME REQUIRED: 15-30 minutes in BOTH procedures. Tubal ligation is done under General or Spinal anesthesia. However, vasectomy is a out-clinic procedure and done under local anesthesia.
3) COST FOR BOTH PROCEDURE: Govt Hospital - TOTALLY FREE
Private Hospital - Rs 10,000-20,000 (varies)
4) YES, 1-3 days rest is required in both procedure and it depends on surgical wound. Most women/ men can do their day to day activity after 1 day.
5) Male method is BETTER than female method due to easy procedure, safe and less complicated. Failure rate is 1/2000 in successful VASECTOMY and 1/200 to 300 in case of TUBAL LIGATION.
However, in vasectomy, post-procedural SEMEN specimens are to be verified for Azoospermia (ABSENT OF SPERM). Till then, you must AVOID unprotected sexual intercourse for 1-2 months (max) and contraceptive method must be continued.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up query.
1) NO, there is NO sexual dysfunction in male process (Vasectomy). It is safe, easy to proceed under local anesthesia in out-clinic department.
2) Vasectomy is NOT mandatory for male. Tubal ligation can be done by your wife under consultation with gynecologist. Both are permanent sterilization methods and any one can be done.
Hope, I have answered your query. Kindly, close the discussion.
All the best and good luck.
Regards,
Dr Soumen
