What Are The Chances Of HIV After Non Penetrative Sexual Activity?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: Hi doctor, I am worried about a sexual encounter I had last month where I have gone to massage shop and the girl gave me full body massage and she gave me a handjob using soap and water no candom, I got fever a week ago lasted to two-3 days then nothing more, do I need to get tested for HIV? Two weeks after this encounter I tested HIV ( ab + ag) and it was negative. Can I have normal sex with my wife?
Finally regarding 4th generation test what is the confirm period of window period where I can not think of HIV anymore, all UK website states 28 days and most of us call centers, however this forum has so many numbers and I have notice that some doctor stil recommend 6 months which is out dated and does not meet CDC?

Brief Answer:
No chance of HIV....

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear XXXX,

Thank you for asking query to HCM,

I understand your concern. I am Dr Arun Tank Infectious Disease specialist answering your query.

Hand job dose not require any testing for HIV. Transmission can only be possible if both of you have open wound at the contact location.

Window period: The period from the entry of the HIV in the host and the appearance of detectable levels of HIV specific antibodies is called " Window Period". It ranges from 3 weeks to 3 months on an average, can be longer some times.

Meaning of window period: During this period individual is infected, is infectious to others but is seronegative i.e. HIV tests for detecting antibodies are negative.

Regarding UK website: UK follows the dual testing (Ag+Ab) testing which can detects both antigen and antibodies. As mentioned above window period can have only antigen and no antibodies, dual test can detect it.

This dual test has some limitation it has higher false results.

In XXXXXXX we follow only antibodies testing so for it we follow six month window period. HIV DNA PCR is better alternative which detects even earlier than dual test and antibody testing.

In your case nothing to worry, Allay all your fear regarding HIV.

I hope I answered your concern well,
