What Are The Chances Of HIV Transmission Through Skin Cuts?
Question: Hi doctor, I am HIV patent. My brother had a 6 months old baby boy. When i pick him up, he pinched on my neck. That results in a deep skin cut. He licked on the wound. I am not knowing that at that time. Very bad incident. This incident happened 28-30 days back. Now what was the risk to baby boy and his mother? Yesterday baby boy had went to motion for 5 times. Please let me know the risk to his mother via breast feeding.
Brief Answer:
Low risk.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Welcome to HCM.
You are HIV positive and your brother's baby licked the deep wound on your neck but in this case there is very low risk because human saliva contains an enzyme which inhibits the growth of HIV virus and the mother is also not at risk so don't worry.
Loose motions may be due to some other reason or gastric infection. Consult pediatrician to isolate the cause and follow the treatment regime. Don't get feared or anxious as the risk is very low. For any further query get back to me any time.
Thank You
