Question: Hi,

I have been trying to conceive for past 6 months and we took a treatment in which i was provided some tablets for hormonal imbalance and in next month after medication, my hormone level imbalance has been stabilized by november. After that i didnt undergo any medications and i got my regular periods till february and this month the periods came by 35th day and we went to doctor and she suggested for Ultrasound scan of complete abdomen which showed that all my ovaries and uterus was normal with fatty liver. Also she asked me to take enphene 50mg tablets for 5 days with folic acid and 3 days injection(day 3,5 &7).My husband report is also normal as per our physician.
I have below Queries:
1)Will fatty liver has any major issues and will it affect getting conceived?
2)Will this Enphene and injections affect my regular cycle and any side effects?
3)Please suggest any food diet for Fatty liver

Brief Answer:
Fatty liver is reversible, enphene in low dose has minimal side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX I have gone through your questions and understand your concerns. I will like to answer you in points, same as you asked.
1. Fatty liver is a condition in which the fat accumulates in the liver. It has grades depending upon severity, grade 1 being ultrasound finding only and can be corrected by diet. Most ultrasonologist mention the the grade.Fatty liver can be associated with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), in which there is hormonal imbalance and delayed menstrual periods. If you have grade 1 fatty liver disease, then it has no major health concerns, and it will not have any effect on the possibilty of conceiving. It seems your doctor was suspecting you to have PCOS, and gave you treatment accordingly.
2. Enphene is clomiphene which is given for ovulation induction and thus increase the chance of conceiving. No, it does not affect the regular periods and has no side effects in such a low dose. Please let me know which injections you have been prescribed so that I can give you information about them.
3. Fatty liver is caused by alcohol consumption, consuming food with more fat or hormonal imbalance. Non- alcoholic fatty liver can be cured by gradual weight loss by exercises and food containing less than 20% fat, and by medications to correct hormonal imbalance and improve glucose metabolism (eg metformin which is given in PCOS).

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound finding not necessary to diagnose PCOS

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX thanks for responding. Ultrasound is only one of the three criteria for the diagnosis of PCOD, which means PCOD can be diagnosed even when the ultrasound does not show polycystic ovaries. PCOD is basically a hormonal imbalance in the body which leads to irregular menstrual cycles and problem in conceiving.
I suggest you to follow your doctor's advice and do weight reduction along with it, as reducing weight improves the hormonal profile in PCOD ad greatly increase the likelihood of conception.
