What Are The Chances Of Having Staph Infection In Breast Implants?
Question: I have staph epidermis in a knee replacement that I had three years ago. I am taking doxycycline hyclate and it is keeping the infection suppressed. What are the possibilities that the infection is also in my breast implants even though I have no symptoms? I am contemplating having the surgery to remove the implant and go through the antibiotic spacer treatment and IV drugs as my other knee needs a replacement but what would the point be if it is in my implants too and they need to also be removed?
Brief Answer:
Infection very likely not in breast implants
Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,
since you are having no symptoms with the breast implants and the breast operation was (as i assume) on a different time done than knee replacement, chances that the staph epid. is also in the breast implant are very low. So normally it is advisable to go with the plan you are mentioning to control the knee infection.
At this point there would be no reason to remove the breast implants. If there is any doubt there can be an mri of the breast be done to see if there is any sign of infection there.
Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards
