What Are The Chances Of Lung Cancer After A Person Quit Smoking?

Question: I have a question. I am 29 years old and smoked about half a pack a day from 19-26 years of age. I dont smoke anymore and live a healthy life. however, even though I quit very young, I can't help but think of the damage I already done. i was wanting to know how much damage did I do and my chances of lung cancer. no one in my family has it, I show no symptoms of coughing, shortness of breath or anything like that.
Brief Answer:
There are negligible chance
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Health care magic.
I read your query and understand your concerns.
First of all I like to inform you that there is no method to assess cancer risk but it has been observed that cancer risk develops after 20 packet years ( one pack for 20 years or two pack for 10 years). Considering this fact it can be assumed that you have negligible risk of lung cancer at this stage.
Secondly it has also been observed that the damage reverts back to normal side after quitting smoking. This also favors the possibility of low risk.
I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks again.
