What Are The Diagnosis Tests For Lyme Disease?
Question: Hello,
I was wondering if I should get tested for Lyme Disease as I accidentally punctured myself with a pair of scissors that were being used to kill ticks when I was around 4-5 years old. My knee became infected and swollen the days after the incident. Since then, I have suffered from migraines with aura, anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, sensitivity to light, sound and smells as well as achey body (flu like symptoms) and IBS. Is there a test for it? and could this affect me 20 years down the line?

Brief Answer:
There is a test for Lyme disease, but I doubt this would linger on for 20yr
Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM: Yes there is a test for Lyme disease, however, I do not think that you have complications as mentioned 20years after due to this, I believe this is coincidental. If this was Lyme disease, you would have definitely had heart issues and even heart block or heart attack. So I think there has to be an alternate reason for your symptoms. And the test would have to be ordered by a regular doctor. I hope this helps. Thanks and good luck.

Thank you, but from all the forums and sources I have read, not all patients suffer from cardiac problems. And cardiac problems are a small percentage. I have also read that lyme disease can be chronic, meaning having symptoms long after being infected.
Anyone else care to chime in? Greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
I agree, however, to have lyme disease, the tick has to be sucking...
Detailed Answer:
I agree, however, to have lyme disease, the tick has to be sucking your blood for at least 24 hours, in any event, you are right that heart block is a subset of symptoms, however, the late and chronic symptoms revolve around arthritis and neurological issues, especially numbness in extremities, also the arthritis tends to be migratory. In any event, I think the answer to your question is yes there is a test for it, and you might want to pursue that option to put this ti rest because the symptoms for Lyme are vague at best unless they are glaring obvious.
