What Are The Foods To Avoid Post Colon Removal?
Low fiber and low fat diet is advised.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I understand your query and concern.
First of all i would like to complement you for mentioning yourself as 59yrs young and secondly the way you handled yourself nutritionally pretty well post colectomy.
Its very important to limit the intake of fat after the removal of colon.
Also one needs to avoid high fiber containing diets like wheat ,whole grain cereals, whole grain bread, raw vegetables and tough meats.
Foods that precipitate diarrhea like broccoli and spinach, dried beans, chocolate, red wine, prune juice and bear.
Foods that are associated with increased gas production like citrus fruits, banana, carrots and dairy products have to be avoided.
Drink plenty of fluids, fruit juices, pea nut butter and cheese and white butter.
Post your further queries,if any.
Thank you.
My inquiry is primarily geared toward nutritional information as I get older. I'm constantly bombarded with, "don't consume salt, sugar, fast foods, etc!" Do these foods effect me similar to someone who has a colon? Am I more prone to high colesteral, hardening of the arteries, dimentia (don't ask my wife)!
I'd like to be able to be with my wife through my 80's.
Right diet can avoid these complications.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I understand your concern.
I have answered keeping in view your future health not alone post colectomy.
Yes, definitely you should not consume high salt and sugar, and fast foods. These foods can have effects different from that of a person without colectomy. There is high risk of acquiring kidney stones in post colectomy patients.
High cholesterol in the blood can predispose them to atherosclerosis/hardening of arteries and subsequent risk of heart disease.
Dementia is also a significant risk factor since many of the gut microorganisms neutralizing the ingested toxins are now eliminated through colectomy.
Right diet has a large implication in preventing these health issues.
Thank you.
