Brief Answer:
All medicines have side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for your query.

Valparin is sodium valproate. It is commonly prescribed for children having seizures. Like other anticonvulsant medicines, even this medicine has side effects but is considered safer than others. Thus risk-benefit assessment should be done and medicine be prescribed if there is clearly more benefit than risk.

Its side effects are as follows:
loss of appetite, vomiting, loose motions, heart burn are common
drowsiness, movement incoordination may be seen at higher doses
behavior problems may be seldom seen

Uncommon side effects like loss of some hair, curling of hair, increased weight and bleeding tendencies
liver may get affected and liver function tests should be monitored regularly

Hope it helps.
