Question: now and that could be why my HGB is low. Do you think that's possible? Hi. I just had a blood test done to check my anemia and it was 101 g/l. I had a urine test too and it had leukocytes at +3. My doctor and I are trying to find out whats wrong with me.I have had several UTI's the past 2 years right around when I became anemic.I have a home hgb test kit and it reads 92 now. Can bing cold affect my readings?

Brief Answer: Difference can be there Detailed Answer: Dear Mam, We discussed your issues 2 days ago. Trust me It's not a big deal to find out the cause of anemia. You just need to get the investigations i advised you. In your last question you Hb was 8.5 , and now it's 10.1 and you found on your home kit as 9.2 , this can occur as laboratory or kit error. Also , the difference can be if your laboratory blood was taken from your vein and for home kit you took finger pricked blood. Or can happen in case you are loosing blood from somewhere , may be unnoticed like in stools. I am concerned with your whole urine report , not only lekocytes. I will be happy if you have no albumin and RBC (Red Blood Cast) in urine. In any case , you should get the investigations that we discussed. If you feel , the investigations are much , ask me , i will try to cut down a few. I wish you a good health. I hope i am able to answer your query , still if you have any query , you may ask me.

Thank you. I know I'm probably worrying too much but I was in the hospital for low HGB once, and I don't want o go back. My meter read 101 before and after my blood tests. It was 95 a couple of hours later which is why I was asking about being cold. If you could cut down on the questions that would be great. My doctor doesn't like it when I play doctor. Please don't forget about the being cold question. P.S. Does my leukocyte report mean I have another UTI

Brief Answer: No effect on episodic cold exposure Detailed Answer: Dear Mam Usually cold exposure doesn't effect Hemoglobin levels. Due to cold there is peripheral vasoconstriction of blood vessels , but that doesn't effect Hemoglobin levels as such on episodic basis. Stop worrying , get these tests done ( i am cutting down a few tests) 1. Complete Hemogram 2. General Blood Picture 3. Serum Creatinine 4. Stool for occult blood 5. Liver function test 6. Ultrasound whole abdomen. In case you have got them done earlier in recent past , you may skip them Anemia can be treated , once we know the cause. So , relax , get these tests done. If you don't have any further query , please close the discussion and rate it.
