Hi
Thanks for posting your query on XXXXXXX
There can be many reasons for not getting pregnant.
One common reason is too frequent or infrequent sexual intercourse or not having sexual intercourse around the time of ovulation. Some stress may also be the cause, especially in your wife. Mostly the cause is unknown
If you are having regular unprotected intercourse for atleast one year and still not able to conceive, then your doctor may prescribe some basic tests to rule out common organic causes.
My advise is as following:
- Calculate the possible date of ovulation by adding 14 days to the date of start of last menstrual periods. Have regular intercourse for 4 - 5 days before and 4 - 5 days after this date.
- Your wife needs to take folic acid supplement daily. She may also take iron supplement if she has low hemoglobin.
- You and your wife should take nutritious and hygienic diet.
- Avoid stress by staying busy in work. Breathing techniques also help.
- You and your wife should exercise for at least 20 min a day. The exercise can include walk, yoga, cycling etc. Light exercises may be undertaken by your wife.
- Keep patience.
Let me know if you have any doubts.

last time her menstrual period day was 11th nov, we had sex between 17th to 7th dec almost everyday. This time her period was 8th dec
in between we travelled 1000kms in bus b/w 27th nov to dec 1st
just wanted to know the reason for not conceiving is either because of frequent sex or bcos of travelling
Brief Answer:
Hi again
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Ovulation may have taken place around 25th Nov. So infrequent intercourse may not be the reason. Travelling may be a reason.
It is too early to be worried about reasons. Take your precautions and leave the rest to nature.
Being happy is critical to successful conception.
Take care

Brief Answer:
Hi again
Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
The ovum production and release may happen before the predicted date of ovulation. Usually ovulation happens between 2 - 3 days before and after the predicted date.
Thus the sexual intercourse should be regular between 4 - 5 days before and 4 - 5 days after this date.
Sometimes because of regular intercourse the volume of semen may decrease. Thus some time off is also recommended. The time off can be between 4 - 5 days before and 4 - 5 days after the menstrual periods. During this period you may have occasional sexual intercourse.
I hope I made it clear.
Regards
Dr Vaishalee
