General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Emergency contraceptive pill postpones ovulation to avoid conception. It causes withdrawal bleeding after 8 days of consumption suggesting that the pill medication has left your body. The ovulation can resume and the protection by pills is withdrawn. Mostly the normal period is delayed by 8-10 days because of interference with routine menstrual cycle.
You had gone past one month after the pills, still no periods. Possibility of pregnancy after withdrawal bleeding remains. So you need physical assessment for cause of delayed period. To be followed by cause specific treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
