What Are The Repercussions Of Accidental Overdose Of Azithromycin?
Question: One year ago I accidentally gave my child who was three years old then 3ml of Azithromycin(200mg/5ml) thrice a day for two days. The doctor had prescribed 3ml once a day and I did a grave mistake of giving thrice a day. On the third day he developed rash all over his body. My main concern has always been any harmful effects that may have caused on his kidneys. Can anyone please tell me the dangers of it and if there are any tests I can do so that I can have peace of mind? Has his body got rid of the overdose.Kindly advise.
Brief Answer:
Unlikely
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
The dose you have given for two days is unlikely to cause any harm to kidneys.
Anyways if you need to be sure get urea and creatinine tests done to have peace of mind.
Body would have got rid of the medicines in XXXXXXX 72 to 96 hours.
