What Are The Repercussions Of Overdose Of Mensovit Plus?

default
Posted on Thu, 28 May 2015
Question: Doctor,
I had an unprotected sex and am I am suspicious that I may get pregnant.
I consulted with a gynaecologist and she suggested menzovit plus tablets.
I was in a difficult situation of mind and I consumed all 6 tablets in one dose. I understand that it is not the way this medicine has to be taken. Now, can I get into any kind of trouble for consuming this dose of 6 tablets? I want to understand side effects and proceed accordingly. Also, does this tablet ensure an abortion? I had the tablet three days after having sex. Do I have to do anything else to avoid a delivery now? Thank you for your time in looking into my query.

Brief Answer:
Mensovit plus not a emergency contraceptive

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Mensovit plus is a herbal preparation used for menstrual regulation, inducing menstruation and labour. However, it is rarely used as a emergency contraceptive.
Side effects are rare and include changes in uterine bleeding, headache or migraines, increased blood pressure, vaginal infection with vaginal itching or irritation, faintness, nausea, pale skin, sweating, pain or tenderness in upper abdominal area, bloating acne, breast pain or tenderness, dizziness, swelling of ankles and feet, unusual tiredness or weakness, blotchy spots on exposed skin, loss of body or facial hair, increased or decreased interest in sexual intercourse, increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight, weight gain. Overdosage of mensovit plus may lead to exacerbation of side effects.
Mensovit plus is not an emergency contraceptive and its efficacy is not known in preventing pregnancy.
I would suggest you to wait for your periods, if delayed do a urine pregnancy test and if positive you can go for medical or surgical termination of pregnancy.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Wishing you good health,
