What Are The Risks Of Contracting HIV Infection Through Oral Sex?
Question: I gave oral sex to a man 6 weeks ago. I may have taken some pre-ejaculate in my mouth, but no ejaculation. I have now taken 4 Oraquick at home oral swabs over past four days, all negative. Latest one attached. I did this carefully according to instructions. I have NOT had any fever, aches, rash or other known ARS symptoms. Can I be confident in my negative results?
Brief Answer:
Oral sex carries a low risk. Oraqick after window period is reliable
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
Oral sex carries the least risk for HIV among various type of sexual activities. HIV transmission through Pre-ejaculate is also very rare. You had 4 Oraqick test negative. But how long after your oral sex, you had these tests? That is very important. Oraquick detects the antibodies against HIV in the presence of an infection. Antibodies will appear only after the window period (6-12 weeks). So the negative test prior to this widow period is of no value. If the test had been done after 12 weeks then you are free from HIV infection.
