What Are The Side Effects Of Crestor?

Question: Hi,
I have been taking crestor for about a month to control cholesterol levels. I am unsure if it is having side-effects. My urine does appear to be definitely darker. When should I check if the medication is having any effects such as muscle break-down and what blood tests could be used?
For other side effects, I feel tiredness could be possible.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Can run the tests now...
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
1. Feeling tired all the time might be related to side effects of Crestor.
2. Having a darker urine might be due to:
- high concentration of urine
- liver problems
Further liver function test is advised to rule out liver problems.
3. If everything is ok, then should check for CPK level to evaluate the damage caused to muscles by Crestor.
You can schedule the lab tests to get them done as soon as possible.

Thanks Dr. Benard,
Could the problems also be related to kidney issues caused by the medication?
I will check with my GP and have the blood tests run.
Thanks,
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Yes, check BUN and creatinine levels to...
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome back!
Yes your problems may be related to kidney issues. There are some reported case of renal impairment due to crestor use. It's an ongoing scientific debate if the renal impairment is a side effect of the treatment or a consequence of preexisting conditions.
However when you run the blood tests you will check the renal function to (BUN and creatinine levels). If normal than there's no renal impairment.
Wish you health!
