What Are The Side Effects Of Dizone?
my eleder brother is taking from last one month and now he is behaving like mental disorder person
alcohol abuse therapy
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
You might want to know that Disulfiram is generic of DIzone. This medicine is used for someone who wants to go off alcohol abuse. It stops the activity of alcohol enzyme, basically helps conditioning treatment for alcohol dependence. During first 15 days the person should abstain from alcohol else it will cause unpleasant side effects. It takes at least 2 weeks before it starts acting.
So would like to know if your brother was alcoholic and tried quitting it. Is your family aware of the drug and its side effects. Along with Disulfiram the person needs supportive therapy from family and psychosomatic therapy by counselor. So what I mean to say is the mental changes are expected during the initial days of disulfiram therapy. Not only that disulfiram can also cause blurred vision, skin discoloration, inflammation of the skin, increased heart rate.
Please monitor him for vomiting, abdominal pain, light stools and dark urine as these may be the signs of liver damage due to disulfiram. See the treating doctor if this happens along with Liver function tests once a month during the first three months.
My brother is Alcoholic and he dont know about we are giving this medicine because if he will come to know he will not ready to take any medicine we tried earlier so many times so we decided to complete this course without knowing him.
But why we afraid is this mental changes behavior will go over with course or Not or we should stop this medicine ?
Is this medicine are good or not or any medicine is available to take care the side effects ?
And this medicine course will take care for rest of the time or we have to give him in regular basic .
Medicine is good

Hi
Definitely Disulfiram is standard therapy for alcohol dependence but the way the course of administered was wrong. According to ethical principles we are not supposed to administer any medicine without patient's consent. So I refrain to comment the way you are doing.
It is up to you decide to stop this medicine or not. As I said earlier this medicine alone will not benefit him, it should be coupled with family support and counseling as well which is not possible without the co operation from the patient.
There is no one medicine that will do all the benefit and trick for you without having side effects. As I said mental changes are common and expected but be careful not to spoil his liver. If he does not know about the medicine you give and he continues to consume alcohol you may endager him more than saving him.
While I appreciate your concerns I do not encourage treatment without informing the patient.
