Question: On behalf of my close friend healing from cancer and being treated for heart issues: His Primary physician does not recommend Levaquin for inflamed, infected jaw..due to his heart issues. Brief Answer:
Both are right at their own individual places.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

I am a training cardiologist myself we do use levaquin i patients of heart disease but yes it has to be used cautiously..this medicine has a side effect of prolonging QT interval(this is an ECG/EKG abnormality) this prolongation can cause sudden death in some rare cases.

In your friend's case both doctors are right at their place , while using levaquin in heart patients a doctor has to weight risk over benefits and then prescribe it. And both doctors are following their judgment for the best of your friend.

In this situation best option will be to ask the cardiologist ..after considering his history..type of heart diseases and current situation he is the best man to prescribe or refute any medication.

I hope this answered your question, a
if you have more please feel free to ask.

Regrads.

Brief Answer:
Cardiologist will make the final decision in here.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back,

Yes that's the best option available.. It's not a matter as such where your friend would need to visit the cardiologist ..the primary knows the case and can take cardiologist opinion on phone. Every setup has different protocols about taking specialist opinion but once taken., I believe cardiologist will be having the last word ..His decision would be taken as final in this situation.

Best Regards.

Dr.Ahmad
