What Are The Side Effects Of Tritace?
Question: Hi,
My husband, who is 85 years old was recommended to take Tritace (ramipril) (2.5 mg) by his cardiologist for a weak heart condition. He has been taking it for about 3 months. He has been feeling some side effects, more lately. The side effects are mainly a dry cough, headache, tiredness, and occasional loss of appetite. His general practitioner today (19 March 2015) advised him to stop taking tritace forthwith, and to monitor his blood pressure for 2 weeks. My question is whether it is advisable for him to stop immediately, and just monitor his blood pressure. Thanks. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Watch out for any episodes of rebound hypertension
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:
1. Yes, it can be stopped and needs to be stopped due to present adverse reactions.
2. However, occasionally rebound hypertension is known to occur. So you need to monitor for blood pressure. Normally, it should not occur here, as he was on ramipril for weak heart. However, do monitor blood pressure.
Otherwise, nothing to worry. If the symptoms disappear, it can be attributed to rampiril.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
