What Are The Side Effects Of High Dose Of Acetaminophen?

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Jul 2014
Question: I have taken 4062.5 mg of acetaminophen over a 12 hour period. I thought I was taking regular strength 325 mg but they were extra strength 500 mg. I know you are not supposed to take over 4000 mg and I am at my cabin up north with no transportation and am very worried about an overdose. The other medications I am on are lexapro 20mg once a day and roxicodone 30mg ir 3x a day. Please help I am a nervous wreck and from what I have read on the internet I am worried I might die.
P.S. I am 29 years old 5` 10" tall and weigh 255 lbs( I also read so many mg per kg of weight so I thought this might help.)Also I do not drink at all and have not taken any acetaminophen in 3 days.

Brief Answer:
Try to relax....

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

Please try to relax. It is true that you have taken a high dose of acetaminophen for a short period of time. However, try to stay calm as anxiety will make things worse.

If you are not having any problem until now, hopefully, you will not have any problem. Internet helps you understand what might be wrong with your body. As your nearest ER is far away, I will try to help you.

I advise to drink plenty of water and milk. In this way, your body will speed up the clearing off acetaminophen. If you will vomit up, do not worry.

Furthermore, I do not advise to take roxicodone and other medications for today. If you will start feeling more drowsy, can have a coffee or tea. Try to avoid taking roxicodone and acetaminophen for the next 24 hours. After 12 hours, you can take lexapro or Xanax.

Hope it helped! Let me know if I can assist you further!
