Could the costochondritis been caused from taking the accutane. She's healthy and athletic and has never had any medical problems. no known injuries to the chest. Pain is slowly subsiding as each day passes
Brief Answer:
not a documented side effect
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
although there are rare reports, there is no such documented (mentioned in the approved SPC of the drug) side effect. The causes of this disorder are not very well documented either. Injury to the chest (including repetitive minor injury), infections (very rarely and usually in IV drug users), tumors, vitamin D deficiency...
Accutane may cause various problems to the bones and I can't totally exclude this side effect but it's not officially reported.
I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
