Main symptoms are fatigue abdominal discomfort ( flanks area ) and depression . It seems to relapse with the slightest exercise or exertion. No medication has been prescribed . Just rest by every one . Its so bad that I have not been able to work for the past seven months. Mono spot test comes negative now but symptoms are still there . Only about a 30% improvement from the initial onset of symptoms .
Brief Answer:
I will request that you should be evaluated for depression!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for following up with me.
There is no medical therapy for mononucleosis. As a viral infection, the body takes care of it without the need for antibiotics. What we need is to make sure we advise you on getting enough rest and avoiding contact sports during the early phase of treatment. At this time, your symptoms of fatigue and depression cannot and should not be linked to EBV/Mono only. I will suggest that you get evaluated and probably managed for depression. Also, your thyroid gland should be evaluated for low functioning by measuring the TSH levels.
In all, get a thyroid test and be evaluated for depression. Mono can no longer explain your symptoms.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
