What Are The Signs Of Hearing Loss?

Question: My daughter is 7.5 months old....she has had three ear infections this winter (2 left ear, 1 right)
I don't think she is "talking" as much and is making a strange new face with her mouth like an "0" This weekend she started shaking her head from side to side quickly several times a day...Are these signs of hearing loss?
She is a former 30 week preemie who passed a hearing screening in the NICU last September

Brief Answer:
May be signs of hearing loss - She needs BERA
Detailed Answer:
Hi....these may be signs of hearing loss.... Except shaking of head. But not talking as much with history of bilateral ear infections warrants hearing evaluation. She needs to undergo a BERA test.
But another issue which requires attention is 3 recurrent ear infections in a season which requires evaluation for immunodeficiency.

is making a strange face also a sign of hearing loss?
She is also making more sounds that seem to be coming from her throat rather than her normal voice? Is this another sign or is she just playing?

Brief Answer:
These are not signs of hearing loss - she's playing
Detailed Answer:
Hi...making strange faces and making noises from throat are not signs of hearing loss. These seem more like habit problems. Best way is to avoid giving importance to such tasks. If the kid comes to know that a particular behavior is attracting attention in some way or the other they tend to over do it.
The best way to reduce a habit problem is to avoid giving importance to it. Tell once sternly that you don't like it and then later on avoid it.
