What Are The Symptoms Of Liver Cirrhosis?
and what are the symptoms of sirosis of the liver.
Information
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Infection with Hepatitis C may not produce symptoms for many years. It's for this reason that the CDC recommends that people our age go in to have our blood drawn for Hepatitis C. We only need to do this one time unless we have a new exposure. But years ago, in our younger days, there could have exposures, even from sharing a toothbrush with someone else. So if you haven't been tested yet, I recommend that you do.
Hepatitis C can NOT be diagnosed by symptoms. When hepatitis C is advanced, there are symptoms that are the same as with any other form of hepatitis or liver disease: fatigue, fever, loss of appetite, dark brownish urine, yellow skin (jaundice), excessive numbers of spider veins, fluid in the abdomen (ascites).
There is possible treatment for Hepatitis C, so that is another reason it is a good idea to have a blood test for it.
Hepatitis C can lead to cirrhosis, as can any other cause of chronic liver disease that causes inflammation of the liver. Cirrhosis means that the normal liver tissue is replaced with non-functioning scar tissue. Over time, this causes liver destruction with the symptoms I described above with advanced Hepatitis C.
