What Are The Symptoms Of Menopause?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: At 38, my periods became very heavy. By 40, they were non-stop. A physician put me on Norethindrone 5mg daily to stop my periods. I haven't had a period for the last 12 years. In order to determine whether I am in menopause or not, and could discontinue the daily medication, my current physician ordered blood tests. The results baffled him. Estradiol 20.4 pg/mL, FSH 1.3 mIU/mL, LH <0.2 ng/mL, Progesterone 0.2 ng/mL, and Testosterone, Serum 167 ng/dL . Can anyone tell me if I am in menopause? Could the Norethindrone cause Testosterone levels to rise?

Brief Answer:
get AMH Levels

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, I understand your anxiety.
Your reports are actually baffling.
Get a hormone tested named AMH ( anti mullerian hormone ) and it will give you all the information needed.
Also leave norethisterone and see for the response.
Norethisterone has no such effect on the hormone levels.
All the best

Thank you. I will request the test you suggested. Is there any reason to be concerned with such a high testosterone level? I do not come in contact with any testosterone boosting medications.

Brief Answer:
nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
High testosterone levels are seen in polycystic ovarian disease or in menopausal females.
But usually of no significance.
Just get the AMH Levels tested and update me the report.
Waiting for the response.
Regards
Dr Manisha.
