What Are The Symptoms Of Mid-brain Stroke?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: wednesday evening I had a sudden change in vision (double/blurred) no other symptoms. Early the next morning I was seen by optholomigist who suspected mid-brain stroke, seen by general dr that afternoon who concurred...blood pressure was 180/103. Started bp medication immediately. I am scheduled for MRI this monday to rule out mid-brain cva. Aside from the vision problem I feel good. Question: Should I be doing anything else to help my situation between now and monday? Also, once the MIR results are in would eye-movement therapy or acupuncture be beneficial?

Brief Answer:
What can be done? Not much.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the MRI is absolutely needed to confirm the diagnosis. I suppose that your doctor has excluded common causes like atrial fibrillation which would need immediate treatment. Carotid artery ultrasound scan would be useful as well.

If/when the diagnosis is confirmed, more can be done depending on the results of the MRI and blood tests. A better blood pressure, lipid and glucose control is required.

If the cause of the double vision is inside the brain then therapies like the ones you've proposed are not expected to benefit patients like you.

Kind Regards!

Brief Answer:
Any muscle weakness or sensory deficit

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

muscle weakness (or paralysis) or sensual deficits are common symptoms in stroke. The symptoms are usually unilateral, for example inability to move the left side of the body (left hand, left foot, etc).

Kind Regards!
