What Are The Symptoms Of Syphilis?

default
Posted on Tue, 26 Jul 2016
Question: can a syphilis chancre resemble a ringworm? Also i would like to know if it does not sometimes resemble a ringworm, does the chancre appear round and firm over night? or does it take a few days to develop?

I had sexual encounter with a man who moved here from mexico. We used a condom, but mid-sex the condom slipped off inside me. I believe we had contact but im not sure. Anyways we used another condom. I'm a hypochondriac and always have safe sex. He assured me afterward that he was clean. This happened XXXXXXX 24 2016, its now almost two weeks later 7/5, and today while i was showering i had an itch near my vagina. i scrubbed it with my body scrub, and when i got out i used a mirror to see what it was. It look like a ringworm. Its barely visible, but i can make out a faint red ring and the center is my normal skin color. its slightly tender, and was only itchy when i showered. please get back to me as soon as you can. Im planning on seeing a doc this fri. Also what are the chances of catching HIV? He didnt come inside me, obviously but he did say tht he was almost there when the condom had slipped, which makes me think maybe he was pre- ejactulating. Your thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Your lesion is unlikely be due to Syphilis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
Syphilitic Chancre is an ulcer (broken and discontinuity of epithelium) whereas Ring worm (fungal infection) infestation is just a patch. Itching is not a feature with Chancre, but itching will be present with ring worm infestation. Chancre will not occur within overnight. Evolved as a small pappule and developed into ulcer and then increase in size. Central normal skin indicates the possibility of fungal infection. Chancre usually develops 3 weeks after the exposure (incubation period) rather than within 2 weeks. Condom slipped during the act and you had completed the sex act with another condom, carries a negligible risk for HIV, if your partner has the infection.
Nothing much to worry. Your doctor will examine and treat the lesion without any difficulty.
