Question: What are the ways to increase breast milk post delivery. We are experiencing low milk supply due to which the baby remains hungry few times. We try to feed mother's milk most of the time but in case of no breast milk we are giving lactogen (once in a day, mostly during night).
-Is this OK to give mothers milk along with few times of lactogen ?
-Please suggest ways(foods or medicines) to increase the milk supply as we sincerely want to give mothers milk for the first 6 month.

Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Generally, mothers have a wrong feeling that their milk production is low.
It is very normal for a baby to feed 10 to 12 times a day. The baby nurses often and generally seem hungry soon after being fed. Mother’s milk is an easy digestible thing as compared to formula milk and hence your child feeds often.
What to do..

...Monitor your baby’s weight often, especially in the early days and weeks, to look for weight gain
...Try to eat well and drink enough fluids. Eat a good quality food.
... Nurse your baby well and give 8 to 10 feeds a day or more if possible.
...try switch nursing – here you offer both breasts at each feeding
...Try massaging the breast gently as you nurse. This can help the XXXXXXX higher calorie hindmilk let down more efficiently.
... Give fenugreek two to three times to the mother as it an age-old belief that it increases milk production.
.. If you feel that all other methods have failed, you can try two drugs which are METPCLRAMIDE and DOMPERIDONE. For this, you must talk to your doctor and take prescription after discussing with him.
Although emphasis should be given breast milk to your child for initial 6 months but giving lactogen some times is all right and not a problem.
I hope it helps however; you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
