What Casues Altered Menstrual Flow?
Question: Hello, I have always had a regular period since I have gotten it. The last few months however, I have had a lot more clots in my flow than usual. I used to only get clots towards the end of my period or on a heavy day but it seems like now I have been getting them during every period and it's a lot. When I urinate, there are a lot of clots in the water as well as on my pad. I always get my yearly check up and have been fine and I am waiting for my visit now but the doctor can not see me for a couple of weeks so I am nervous as this isn't a usual occurrence until the past few months. Both my mother and sister have fiobroids/harmless cysts but everything is always fine with them too. My period also started out very light (1st day) this time and now it's the start of my 3rd day and it's not that heavy anymore - I used to be 4 days in my period. I want to be honest and state that I have been using some over the counter diet pills as of the last few months, could this be causing this? I did take 2 pregnancy tests as well and both were negative. I'm just worried as I wait for the doctor and want to know what could be wrong.
Brief Answer:
OFTEN OCCURS DUE TO HARMLESS REASONS
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
First of all, relax, dont worry.
You are having altered menstrual flow.
This often happens as the thirties approach.
Have a gynecological evaluation though, it will reassure you.
Other than normal age related changes, other conditions can cause it.
Stress, weight changes ( yes your diet pills too ), exercise, travelling, late nights, erratic eating, drinking, smoking etc.
So dont worry.
You should have an internal exam, pelvic ultrasound scan and hormonal levels ( FSH, LH, TSH , Prolactin ) to pick up any fibroids, ovarian cysts or other pathology.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further
